2018 Movie Review: Ferdinand

I am a fan of feel-good movies that let me experience being a child all over again. The world is already full of terror and immersing myself on the silverscreen for the next hour or so with troubling scenes is the last thing that I would want to do. My soul needs a dose of positivity and animation films give me exactly the light feeling that I want so I put "Ferdinand" in our movie list for 2018.

As a material that came from Blue Sky Studios which created "The Peanuts Movie" and "Ice Age", I had high expectations on the graphics and 3D-rendering animation and they did not fail on that aspect. While there are some boring parts (oh yes, I even yawned at one point but then this was a late night movie after work) tearjerker ones, and some comic relief, they have incorporated life lessons about family and friends in the film. A word of caution though, this is something catered to the young market but the premise of bull fighting might scare them away.

This is typically about what is essential is invisible to the naked eye. It simply reflects the famous adage of not judging a book by its cover as the story revolves around Ferdinand who is a gentle, flower-loving bull despite his big and strong appearance. There is always something deeper to what we see on the surface.
While the world has already imposed responsibilities on each of us (ex. ants being workers, bulls as fighters, etc..), it is better to be yourself, chasing after your dreams - it is okay to depart from society's standards and expectations doing what you want to do as long as you are happy and you feel fulfilled. It also tells a story about not leaving your friends behind.

With these reflections being said, "Ferdinand" is a movie that is uplifting and entertaining for the whole family.
